Hello everyone and welcome to my first post of 2019! I am so excited for what this year will bring. First I want to say thank you to you, my readers! Thank you for following me on my journey in 2018 and I'm happy to have you again in 2019. When I first started this blog I didn't know who would read it, I thought I would be judged but I am so glad I did it and now we are entering the fifth year of StylebyKye! I'm happy to say that I wrote 60 blogs in 2018!
In my last post I reflected on 2018, now it's time to think about the future. What am I expecting for the new year, what are my resolutions? Keep reading to find out.
New Year Resolutions...Did I Keep Them?
A lot of people believe that New Year Resolutions are pointless because people never keep them, but I think they have a really nice purpose, I do agree that you don't need to wait for a new year to make changes in your life however the new year is a great time for deep reflection on your life and how you can improve it. Last year I shared a few of my goals:
I wanted to read more and I'm happy to say I read 7 novels and am on my 8th.
I wanted to make more friends and I did, I made some really close bonds with some amazing people.
I wanted to grow my natural hair and I did, I stayed committed and didn't flat iron my hair for the year making it healthier and a bit longer.
I wanted to use social media less and uhhhh not sure how I did on this one, I still share a lot but I did disconnect from social media more often by taking a week off and putting time limits on my apps.
Finally I wanted to have more volunteering and internship experiences, happy to say I volunteered at the hospital over my summer and currently during my winter break and I'm applying to opportunities at medical schools.
I am really proud of everything I did in 2018, which you can read more about here. Life is all about improvement, here is what I hope to accomplish in 2019:
1. Better Work-Life Balance
2018 was my best performing year academically, I think I really mastered my study skills and what I need to do to perform well in my classes. I also learned how to balance my responsibilities. In 2019, I want to focus on balancing other aspects of life, while my education is important and extremely valuable to me I want to be sure that I am a well balanced person and that I experience other aspects of life. I think it's important I start now so that take those habits into medical school, my career and the rest of my life.
2. Work Out More
Seems like everyone has this resolution so sorry for being cliche, but I really do want to go to the gym more, this ties into my work-life balance. I want to go to the gym once a week, last semester this was hard with my busy schedule and I know it will be even harder next semester but I really want to try.
3. Say Yes!
Again this ties back into the idea of more balance in my life, I want to say yes more! A few times this year when my friends would want to go out or my boyfriend wanted to do something I would say no because I had to study or I didn't plan it ahead of time, I want to say yes more and be a little more spontaneous when possible. It is so easy to get comfortable in life but I don't want my life to be stagnant so I want to say yes more and life live to the fullest!
4. Spreading Positivity
This has always been important to me, I hope to continue this in 2019. I think as a blogger and a person who shares a lot I walk a fine line between sharing because it motivates others and sharing because I am showing off, while my intent is never to be showing off I am always mindful of how the things I put out into the world affect others. I want to uplift people in my life, to put happiness first, to be motivated and motivate others, and always keep a positive energy.
5. More Self Care
At some parts of the year I started slacking on my self care, again I was putting school first all the time. I want to add back some staple self care time for myself, taking the time to put a face mask on, read a book, watch my shows, things like that.
Other goals include continuing to do my best in school, I hope that it could be more straight As but as long as I did my best I will be happy with that. I hope to get into some summer programs, to travel, sing more, save money, continue reading more, and to continue building my brand
Overall, I don't plan to be a new person in 2019, I just want to be a better person. My goal is to always be a better person than I was the day before. The theme of my 2019 seems to be balance, I excited to get the year started.
What are your resolutions? Let me know if you related to any of mine. Thanks as always for reading!
xoxo,
Kye
