Q&A

Hello my wonderful readers and welcome to another blog post, this week's post is a Q&A! I'll be answering 20 questions that were sent to me and just talking about various topics. I thought this would be a cute idea and had fun thinking of some of the answers. So grab your cup of tea, get comfy, and enjoy reading!

Top 3 Pet Peeves?

My pet peeves have to be when people are disrespectful, messy people/places, and when sounds are too loud or multiple sounds all at once. Overall if you're respectful and considerate I'm cool with you.

Who Inspires You the Most(not family)?

There are a lot of influential people but I would have to say Michelle Obama. She is a great example of Black Girl Magic! I love how educated she is and the grace she has. She is an amazing role model to black girls.

Same Question but From Your Family?

That would definitely have to my mommy. She inspires me so much to follow my dreams, to be myself, and to be a strong a women. I've learned so much from her and wouldn't be who I am today without her.

What's Your Motto?

"Things happen for a reason"

I say this a lot, and I think it helps me to find the good in bad situations and to know that every little thing is life is leading up to the big and important times.

What's Your Favorite Fruit?

I looooove avocados, they would definitely have to be my favorite fruit. One of my favorite snacks is toast spread with avocado, some sliced tomatoes with a few sprinkles of salt and pepper!

Favorite Hair Care Product?

This was a hard one to answer because there are a lot of products that I love, if I had to pick one it would have to be my current conditioner: Almond Milk restoring conditioner from Carol's Daughter. It makes my curls so soft and smooth!

Stayed tuned for natural hair routine coming soon!

Favorite Thing to do on a Sunday?

Sunday's are perfect for relaxation, I love to have some tea and do a face mask every week. I think it's important to have routines and times to just relax.

Favorite Song from Childhood?

I have so many! I would jam to "Roll it Gyal" and I loved Destra. I would grab a rag and wave every time "Fly" played and loved "Celebrate"...still do! I also loved "We Belong Together" from Mariah Carey and "American Boy" by Estelle, honestly I was singing all the time when I was a kid so its pretty impossible to pick just one song.

Favorite thing to do when you have free time?

Honestly, I love writing my blog! I try to do weekly posts, so whenever I have free time in the week I'm working on content.

I also have been trying to read more, and read a novel each month. And finally, watching Netflix!

Most Challenging Thing about College?

I think the most challenging thing is time management, I feel like there's never enough time in the day! Between classes, clubs, studying, events, and homework...my days can last, well all day! It can be challenging have 12+ hours days before finally heading back to my dorm. I know that as a pre-med student my days would only be busier as I go through med school and residency, so I just think of this time as a practice for the future.

How do you deal with relationships in college and not seeing each other as often?

It's not easy! We just went a month without seeing each other and I missed him so much. But overall, I think to be able to have a healthy relationship in college, trust is the most important. You also have to want the best for that other person, and that might mean that you have to make sacrifices such as not face-timing that night so that they can do homework or study. Also sharing support for them, and just making them feel like even though you're not there in person you're still there in spirit. Staying connected with different schedules can be a little difficult, but its definitely important. As long as both people are putting in effort, things can work out smoothly!

Let me know if you'd like a post on relationships!

What to you want to do after school?

After undergraduate, my goal is to go to medical school to become an Ob/Gyn. Maybe I'll take a gap year and do research, but we'll just have to wait and see how life works out!

Why do you want to be an Ob/Gyn?

My dream is to be an Ob/Gyn so that I would be able to help women to be healthy and to have healthy pregnancies. I would like to deliver babies, which I think is a magical and intimate moment in a women's life, and every woman deserves to have a doctor who can help them in that moment. I also believe that women should have access to birth control and health care. I really believe this is the right path in medicine for me.

Favorite Starbucks Drink?

Caramel Brulée Frappuccino, it's seasonal and best believe I get it from the time it comes out until they stop selling!

How do you cope with being away from your family?

Being away from home isn't easy and I miss my family all the time. I think something that helped me was making the time away gradually increase. During my first semester I went back home pretty often, now in my Spring semester I only went home once for my brothers birthday and now for Spring break. I think this helped me to get used to it and for my family to get used to me being gone too...its definitely a process.

How did you make new friends in college?

Joining organizations, talking to people in classes and making study groups, asking people to hang out, and sitting with people in the Diner. Most people I talk to have something in common with me such as multiple classes, Gemstone, CSA, or pre-med societies.

How do you stay healthy when you eat at the dining hall everyday?

It's all about choice! You could have a burger and fries and soda, or you could have pasta, veggies, fish, and fruit-infused water. I try my best to make healthy choices in the dining hall by having half my plate be salad/veggies, having either pasta or rice, and fish or chicken. I don't drink soda or juice opting for water instead.

How & why did you decide to get a tattoo?

I always thought about getting a tattoo, but I knew that I wanted it to be something meaningful. I saw some coordinate tattoos and loved it, I knew I wanted to put Saint Martin's coordinates on me because I love my island so much. When I went home that summer it seemed like the perfect time! I would say think really hard and long about getting a tattoo because it is permanently a part of you. I knew that I wanted mines to be very meaningful and I have no regrets.

Did your tattoo hurt?

I was told it would hurt SO MUCH...but it actually didn't! I was pretty comfortable, I think I was most concerned about not moving. I just took deep breaths and tried to relax, overall it wasn't painful!

How do you take care of your natural hair?

I think this would be a good topic for a blog post! As for a quick summary: deep condition every week, drink lots of water, tie my hair overnight to prevent breakage, cut my split ends, and protective styles.

Hoped you enjoyed this Q&A, I think there were some great questions here! I would love to do more in the future.

Thanks for reading,

xoxo
